MRFM Equipment

Our MRFM experiments are performed in two 5.87 T conventional wide-bore superconducting NMR magnets.

Probes

Two MRFM probes which can be used on both magnets are available in our lab. Both probes operate at room temperature under vacuum conditions (10-3 mbar). In one probe a sample-on-cantilever geometry has been adopted and the cantilever oscillates in the direction of the static B0-field gradient (z-direction). A piezo bender actuator is used to flip the B0-field gradient source 2 mm away from the sample,  to reduce the field gradient during encoding of other spatial or spectroscopical dimensions. The second probe offers the possibility to adopt both the sample- and the gradient-on-cantilever geometry. The latter allows us to use vacuum-protected chambers to measure liquid samples.
